Forgiveness is an Action

When we talk about Biblical forgiveness, it is an action, it is not about emotion. When we forgive we are most like our Lord and Savior. It is more than just letting something roll off your back, or some words that you speak in self righteousness, it is an action. Truly forgiving others is so powerful, not only in our spiritual worthy walk, but also in the lives of others around us. Forgiveness is not something that we should try and rationalize as if we are still living in the sphere of the worldly, that is what they do. We are new creatures, new creations, grafted in Christ Jesus, and we are to forgive even the most evil things. We are to give to God our hurt feelings, our weak understanding, our need to avenge, our desire for revenge, we are to stop in our tracks and pray to God. Give God those emotions, give God those hurts, allow God to heal you and then pray for the person who committed the act. And do it over and over, and read and study Scripture about forgiveness and how you as a child of God have been forgiven. It will become clear that you are a sinner that needs forgiveness too. Our enemy loves to get a foothold into our lives when it comes to forgiveness, he loves to take us around the mountains of bitterness, anger, rage, so that we are not focused on the purposes of God. Forgiveness frees us to focus our attention on our heavenly Father and what His will is for our life. Put on the armor of God and stand firm, rooted and grounded in the promises of God, give to him all of your cares and pray for your enemies. I can testify to my own personal experience with this issue. I can also tell you that praying and giving to God my hurts, and praying for my enemies changed me, transformed me and blessed me beyond all imagination. The peace, the joy, the love, all of the fruits of the Spirit flooded back into me and overwhelmed me. When we fail to forgive we grieve the Holy Spirit. I pray that you too will forgive the way the Scripture tells us to do.

Here are some Scriptures to read and meditate on, this is the Word of God and we are to obey His Word, in that we will be blessed.

Matthew 5:44

Luke 6:27-28

Romans 12:14

Romans 12:20
